23/07/2020: Face coverings made a legal requirement in UK shops.
Face coverings must be worn in enclosed public spaces from 24 July in England, as the government takes further steps to help curb the spread of the virus.
Obviously, there are exceptions to this ruling. For example, certain businesses such as, gyms, restaurants and pubs are exempt. As are people below the age of 11 and those of us with disabilities or certain health conditions, such as respiratory or cognitive impairments that make it difficult for them to wear a face covering.
While this change in the rules could, understandably, enforce the belief that you do not need to take any other measures into account when you are 'popping to the shops', it is vital that you remember to abide by other social distancing measures and hygiene best practices.
So, what does this mean for your businesses?
Well, not a great deal in terms of your current day to day duties, you will just need to remember that some customers will be exempt from this ruling.
But, it is highly recommended that you provide your customers with additional measures for the safety of themselves and your team. For example, make sure you are providing ample facilities for hand sanitising, ensuring that people are queuing in a safe manner and most of all, make sure that you have social distancing measures in place to ensure people can remain a safe distance from one another.
Here is a little quote from Gov.uk:
People wearing face coverings are still strongly advised to:
- wash their hands or use hand sanitiser before putting one on or taking it off
- avoid taking it off and putting it back on again a lot in quick succession
- store it in a plastic bag in between washes or wearing
- avoid touching their eyes, nose, or mouth while wearing one
